5 clean makeup products you need if you're over 40 (full face!)

(This post contains affiliate links that I make a small commission from. They come at absolutely no cost to you, they just support keeping this blog going! Thank you for shopping my links!)

I will be 40 next year, but I have been a professional makeup artist for 20 years! And when I tell you I have worked on every type, age, and color of skin, I mean it! From fashion week runways to mothers of the bride, I've seen it all!

When my own skin started showing signs of maturing, I knew I had to switch up my makeup routine. Luckily for me, I knew just where to go - and lucky for you, I've done all of the research for you!

I also know the importance of clean and high quality ingredients for aging skin. The last thing we want is to be clogging our pores with toxins that age us quicker than we already are. Don't let me talk your ear off though, lets get to the real reason you're here...

SEINT BEAUTY CREAM COLOR COMPACTS:

Can one palette do it all? Almost! I first tried Seint beauty about two years ago, and I have been an avid user since. Let me start by telling you the reasons why you'll love it:

  1. Creams don't dry on the skin like liquid foundation does. You know those little fine lines that get caked up over the day because products dry and settle into them? Not a problem with cream based makeup.

  2. It's one layer. You look a bit like you're putting on war paint with seint, but the real magic is you put everything on in one layer and blend it all together. This makes not only your application time cut in half, but you also use less product since you're not putting the foundation color all over the skin. This also makes everything look less cakes because its not layers and layers of makeup.

  3. It blends like a dream. Honestly, just a few taps of your brush and the makeup pushes into the skin beautifully and all of the colors blend together seamlessly. I have yet to see someone screw this makeup up. It also is very easy to blend away if you added too much! Once blended it literally looks like skin, but better! Its almost undetectable!

The other thing I love about Seint is that even though it is a direct marketing company, you don't have to buy through a rep if you don't want to. You can literally just buy directly from the company and not have anyone in your DM's asking if you want to join an "opportunity"! This is my current palette and the colors I wear on a daily basis:

SEINT makeup rates about a 2 on the EWG scale.

Prices range from $14-$16 per pan and will typically last several months, shop here:

But hey I get it, if you're not into supporting this type of company at all, but runner up products would be from DIBS! They are clean, cream based, and beautiful, check out my faves HERE.

TARTE SHAPETAPE GLOWBAR:

When setting your makeup at any age, but especially past 35, you want a powder that has some "glow" to it. Not glitter, because that will age you quicker than showing a blockbuster video card, but a slight sheen. Enter the Tarte Shapetape Glowbar! The benefits of this compact are:

  1. You get three colors, the lightest for under your eyes, the middle for all over your face, and a slightly darker to use as bronzer. All three colors together cost what one Hourglass powder costs - and have a much lower EWG rating!

  2. The powder is so incredibly finely milled, it's almost impossible to add "too much".

  3. It doesn't feel like powder on your face - a sheer wash of color to set and it melts in with the Seint creams beautifully!

Tarte Shapetape Glowbar rates a 2 on the EWG scale.

E.L.F. Ultra Precise Brow Pencil:

Without a doubt one of the things I see MOST women over 40 skip is filling in their brows. As you might now, I have the privilege to work for one of Austin's TOP rated boudoir studios doing hair and makeup. When I tell you, women feel completely different about themselves once their eyebrows are filled in and shaped - it's incredible.

They really do make a difference - but I think most women are scared they will do it too harshly and thats why they skip this step. Thats why I chose this particular bow pencil.

  1. Its got a super fine tip so its very precise

  2. The creamy formula makes it easy to blend away too much product using the attached spooly.

  3. It comes in 4 colors that work on hair from grey to blonde to black.

E.L.F. Ultra Precise Brow Pencil rates a 2 on the EWG scale.

Retails for $6, shop here.

L'oreal Telescopic Lift Mascara:

Mascara-gate aside, when I am not wearing my Wink Clique lashes, THIS is the mascara I'm grabbing - its also in my pro kit! HOWEVER, I do have a word of caution, if you have mature skin, I beg you to stop wearing waterproof mascara. Unless you are wiping tears away all day long due to an eye condition or you're a professional swimmer, there is no need for it. Waterproof mascara will breakdown your natural lashes causing you to loose them faster than you can grow them. Regular mascara won't cause raccoon eyes anymore than waterproof, generally if you're having this problem its because you're over using your skin care, or not using the right kind! Anyway, this mascara gives you length and fullness and I haven't ever noticed any flaking on anyone.

L'oreal Telescopic Lift Mascara rates a 1 on the EWG scale.

Retails for $14.99, shop here.

E.L.F. STAY ALL DAY BLUE LIGHT MICRO-SETTING MIST:

Setting spray is not a MUST for everyone - but Im going to tell you why I think you should be using one if you aren't already - especially this one!

  1. setting spray removes any "powder" look to your skin if you happen to have over done it.

  2. it helps your makeup last through the day, but can also be used as a refresher. If you do happen to have anything settle into a fine line, or maybe your sunglasses removed your makeup from the bridge of your nose - a couple of mists over the face and a gentle pat of your finger over the area and problem solved!

  3. This particular setting spray is Infused with Glucosylrutin that reduces the transmittance of blue light - lets talk about why blue light is bad for you here.

So what are you waiting for girlfriend, get to spraying your face!

E.L.F. Stay all Day Blue Light Micro-Setting Mist rates a 4 on the EWG scale.

Retails for $10, shop here.

**I also wanted to add a BONUS item, and that is this gorgeous eyeshadow palette you've been seeing in the back of my photos! Its the man-eater palette from Tarte Cosmetics, and it is FAB! The blending is stunning, the colors are gorgeous, and the pigmentation is breathtaking! I immediately bought one for me and one for my pro kit! Get it HERE!

Hopefully this give you a kick start to your clean beauty journey, especially if you have more mature skin! If you have questions, please feel free to leave them below, and if you want to see me apply any of these, I will have a tutorial on my IG soon!
