Pour some SUGAR on me!

(This post contains affiliate links that I make a small commission from. They come at absolutely no cost to you, they just support keeping this blog going! Thank you for shopping my links!)

I can not STAND having dry rough skin!!! I don't think anyone LIKES having skin like that, but I literally can not with it!

Before I started living low-tox, my shower was FULL of Tree Hut sugar scrubs in every scent I could get my hands on. There was nothing like shaving your legs after exfoliating them to get the cleanest, smoothest, closest shave ever!

When I found out how horrible they are for you, I was legit devastated! I HAD to find an alternative and I had to find one fast! TO THE INTERNET! I knew Pinterest wouldn't let me down - I was wrong! Every scrub I tried was either too oily, not oily enough, or wouldn't clump together the way the commercial stuff did. Not to mention, plain white sugar scrub is fine, but PINK sugar scrub is FUN!

After practicing and wasting *cough* several batches, I finally nailed it, and now its the only scrub I use, and Im going to share the recipe with you!

The items you will need:

  • Pure Sugar (you need PURE CANE sugar, NOT Granulated Sugar - trust me on this, its worth the extra coin!)

  • Liquid Coconut Oil (the kind that stays liquid all the time is a must)

  • Castor Oil (the one I'm linking in awesome because it has applicators for your brows and lashes for growth!)

  • Pink Himalayan Salt

  • Natural plant based food dyes that won't stain your skin or tub

  • a container to keep it in that has a lid (I just cleaned out one of my old tree hut ones, but I'll link one for you!)

  • Optional: Essential Oils of choice for scent

You can see the exact items I use and purchase them HERE.

Here is how to make it:

  • 2C Sugar

  • 1/2 C salt

  • 1 1/2 C coconut oil

  • 2T castor oil

  • for coloring, you will follow directions and bloom in a small amount of water then add as desired. You can add them straight into the mix but they might be a bit too concentrated.

  • 2-3 drops of essential oils

Then you're just going to mix everything up until it looks like sugar scrub! If you want it more oily, add more coconut oil, more rough, add more sugar!

Then you can store it in your container with a lid for up to a year! I generally have to stir it a bit with my fingers when I am in the shower, but I had to do that with the commercial stuff too, so its no different!

You can use your scrub all over your skin and it will leave it smooth, exfoliated, and soft as a baby's butt! Have fun playing around with different scent and color combinations! They also make amazing gifts around the holiday season.
